GED & Vocational Services
GED
GED classes are held Monday through Thursday at the Buttonwoods Community Center (3027 West Shore Road, Warwick)
Monday: 8:30-1:30
Tuesday: 8:30-1:30
Wednesday: 8:30-1:30
Thursday: 8:30-11:30
Westbay Adult Education Academy is proud to have a high rate of GED graduates. Upon initial intake and orientation, students are enrolled in free classes to prepare for their GED. Class sizes are fairly small, which allows teachers to work with each student individually, providing the personal attention they need to advance in their studies.
Students prepare for the GED Test by studying each of the Test sections, which are Reading, Writing, Math, Science and Social Studies. Students take practice tests throughout their time at the Academy.
When a student passes the GED Official Practice Tests in Reading, Writing, Math, Science and Social Studies, they are referred to one of the GED Test Centers located throughout the state, to take the official tests and earn their GED.
Enrollment
The GED enrollment process involves an initial screening, either by telephone, in-person or online. An appointment is scheduled, which includes an initial assessment in reading, math, and language, and enrollment forms are processed. A second appointment is made for state CASAS testing. From here a student is given classroom orientation and is accepted into the program

Vocational Services
Sessions are held Monday through Thursday, 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m., and Friday 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
The Academy's vocational services are available to any Kent County resident, and focus on introducing individuals to the world of work, or preparing someone to return to the workforce.
After assessing a person's work experience and career goals, a customized curriculum is designed and taught during regularly scheduled sessions each afternoon. Friday is an all day class, fully devoted to the needs and concerns of the individual learners.
Job Search Skills
Sessions include creating resumes and cover letters, developing interviewing skills, and learning how to use a computer. Instructors also discuss what employers are looking for in a candidate, and participants are welcome to search for jobs in one of the computer labs.
Participants also receive a referral to Westbay's Working Wardrobe facility, which provides free, attire, appropriate for an interview and the workplace.
College & Work Preparation
Throughout the year, The Academy offers informational workshops related to preparing for college, job training and job readiness. Workshops include presentations by CCRI about their programs and the steps necessary to enroll, and various professionals talk about what they look for in interview candidate and employee.
