The Academy launched its college preparation course at CCRI this month with 18-20 GED graduates. The intensive program was developed to address the situation where many mainstream high school graduates must take remedial courses at CCRI before enrolling in actual college classes. The Academy wants to ensure its GED graduates are better prepared and geared to success. The course is tuition free, but students must pay an register fee.

Vanessa is one of our recent GED graduates. She received financial aid, which has allowed her to enroll in a local community college. Her experience at Westbay was a very positive one and she highly recommends the program to others. Here is her story.
MY JOURNEY
Hi my name is Vanessa, and I am a mom of 3 beautiful girls. I chose to come to Westbay Adult Education because I went through another program and failed my GED twice. I knew coming to Westbay was my last chance at getting my GED. I heard about this program from Early Intervention. The first time I called I actually hung up the phone on someone, but I got the courage to pick the phone back up and register.
If I were to recommend a GED program, I would say go to Westbay. This program is wonderful because they make sure you are more than ready to go take your GED. If it were not for this program, I would have never achieved my goal of getting my GED. Small classes make it easier to learn.
The teachers are awesome. They are very welcoming and friendly. Patricia, Carrie, Betsy, and Melanie are always there if you need them. They are always there to support you , whether you need some extra help or just some advice. This program has taught me a lot. I am very thankful, and grateful to have had such wonderful people to help me.
I must say the students were great as well, and fun to be around. The teachers can also help you put together a resume and help you job search. They will also help you fill out college and financial aid applications.
Last but not least, I wish everyone the best of luck, and I will miss you all.
Sincerely,
Vanessa

Congressman Langevin marked the first anniversary of the Stimulus package by holding a press conference at the Buttonwoods Community Center with Mayors Scott Avedisian (R-Warwick), Joseph Polisena (D-Johnston), David Cicilline (D-Providence) and Allan Fung (R-Cranston)
Westbay CEO Jeanne Gattegno also spoke about the $230,000 the Academy received which allowed us to hire more teachers, buy computers and accommodate more students.
She also introduced GED grads Ian McQuesten and Stephen Westgate.
After the conference, the congressman toured the classrooms and spoke with instructors. He graciously posed with the CEO, instructor and the two featured students.
