The Westbay Marketplace serves as a regional center for food security services. The Marketplace is located at 211 Buttonwoods Avenue in Warwick. At the Marketplace families can receive nutritious emergency food and be connected to other food security services. The following programs are operated out of the Marketplace:

Emergency Food: After an initial assessment, the client selects his/her own emergency food based on family size and by food type. Westbay staffers give clients a food ticket, which shows how many items of each food type they may take. They then shop for the specific item they want. For example a client’s ticket may show that he/she can pick three grain items. They can then choose 1 loaf of bread, 1 box of pasta, and 1 carton of oatmeal or 3 loaves of bread or 2 oatmeals and a pasta.

Commodities:  Commodities are foods such as pasta, rice, canned tuna, salmon, fruits and vegetables, orange juice, soup, beans, spaghetti sauce, and dried figs. After an initial assessment, clients can receive these foods once a month. The amount of commodities they can get again depends on household size. However there is no choice of items.

Serve New England: Serve New England is a cooperative food-buying program. Any person can join the Westbay chapter. Participants receive a 40% discount on the price of top quality meats, vegetables, fruits, and other items in exchange for 2 hours of volunteer work per month. Participants order and pick up food monthly at the Marketplace.

How to apply for Marketplace programs: Call 732-4660 to schedule an appointment or visit Westbay at 205 Buttonwoods Avenue between 8:30 and 4 PM Mondays through Fridays. An Intake Specialist will help you complete a brief assessment form. Marketplace staff will then help you with your food selection.

Office operates weekdays from 8:30AM to 4:30PM.
