Weatherization Assistance Program

The Federal Department of Energy establishes low-income eligibility guidelines.  If you are deemed eligible:

  • Weatherization’s professionally trained crews conduct a full energy inspection of your home or apartment to determine which energy efficient measure are needed to make the home more energy efficient.
  • Health and safety checks will also be done for carbon monoxide, gas leaks, smoke detectors, chimney inspections and heating system efficiency.
  • Inspection for building insulation will be done.
  • A blower door test, a test to measure air leaks before insulation and air sealing, will be done to check home air leakage.
  • Water conservation measures are used by installing low-flow shower heads and faucet aerators.
  • Electric conservation measures.
  • Lead hazards checks.
  • Heating system repairs.

The Weatherization team then determines which energy efficient measures are appropriate, emphasizing the most cost-effective measures and those which are essential for health and safety.
