LIHEAP Heating Assistance

The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) helps low-income households with fuel bills during the winter. Eligible households receive a grant to help pay their heating bills. Grants are paid directly to the utility or fuel company.

The program generally runs from mid-October thru April. Read more at the Rhode Island Department of Human Services.

Eligibility

LIHEAP is available to individuals and families, whether they own or rent.

Westbay’s LIHEAP program serves residents of Warwick, West Warwick, East Greenwich, and Coventry. Residents of other towns should contact their local community action agency.

If you are facing increased financial pressures that impact your ability to pay your gas and electric bill, RI Energy may be able to help through its Discount Rate program. If you are a residential customer who receives SNAP, LIHEAP, or SSI, you may qualify for a 25% discount on your monthly gas and electric bill. If you receive Medicaid, Rhode Island Works Program, or Public Assistance, you may qualify for a 30% discount on your monthly gas and electric bill. To prove eligibility for a discounted rate, you must submit a confirmation letter from one of the assistance organizations. Apply online by emailing discounted@rienergy.com or faxing 1-877-388-9077
